Choosing to remember, choosing to forget
God chooses to remember his covenant with us. We see this in various passages of Scripture -
I will remember my covenant that is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh. And the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh. Genesis 9:15
When the bow is in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth. Genesis 9:16
But I will for their sake remember the covenant with their forefathers, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the nations, that I might be their God: I am the LORD. Leviticus 26:45
And on it goes. God is faithful to remember His promises to us. But what is so amazing to me is what He chooses not to remember -
I, I am he who blots out your transgressions for my own sake, and I will not remember your sins. Isaiah 43:25
For I will be merciful toward their iniquities, and I will remember their sins no more. Hebrews 8:12
…then He adds, “I will remember their sins and their lawless deeds no more.” Hebrews 10:17
God, with His complete omniscience and wisdom, because of His infinite mercy to us through Christ, chooses to not remember our sins. O praise Him, amen.
