Three Days of First Importance
I had never noticed before the direct connection between the Friday, Saturday and Sunday of Holy Week and Paul’s statement in 1 Cor. 15:3-4 of those things which are of “first importance”. Here is the passage -
For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures (1 Cor. 15:3-4)
Friday marks the first of three truths that the Apostle Paul considered to be of “first importance” (1 Cor. 15:3-4), that “Christ died for our sins.” Spend time meditating on this. Take time to remember. Take time to give thanks for your salvation in Christ. He died for my sins and yours. He died to pay the price, to redeem us. He died…
Matthew 27:59-60
And Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a clean linen shroud and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had cut in the rock. And he rolled a great stone to the entrance of the tomb and went away.
Saturday marks the second of three truths that the Apostle Paul considered to be of “first importance” (1 Cor. 15:3-5), that “He was buried.” Jesus, the God-man, died a physical death. He then had to be buried physically. His body was seen dead. His dead body was wrapped in linen. His dead body was laid in a tomb. That tomb was sealed. “He was buried.”
Reflect on this truth that is of “first importance.” Let it sink in deep. Don’t skip over it in order to get to the joy of the Resurrection too quickly. Christ died “for our sins.” He was buried…
Matthew 28:6
He is not here, for He has risen, as He said. Come, see the place where He lay.
Resurrection Sunday marks the third of three truths that the Apostle Paul considered to be of “first importance” (1 Cor. 15:3-5), that (Christ) “was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.” We have seen that He died for our sins and that He was buried. He died a physical death. His actual body was buried in a tomb that was sealed. That same physical body was raised from the dead “on the third day”. We celebrate on Resurrection Sunday a miracle that only God can do…resurrection and restoration. As we have placed our faith and trust in Jesus, we too will be resurrected. All creation will be restored in a day that is not as far away as we think. Celebrate this truth. Christ, the Lord, is risen. He is risen indeed.
